IMTS Recap: Emerging Machine Tool Innovations from Mazak, Okamoto, and Seibu America

IMTS 2026 brought manufacturers from across the industry together to see where machining technology is heading next. For the A.W. Miller team, the show was also an opportunity to meet with customers, discuss real production challenges, and explore new solutions from our manufacturing partners.

Across the Mazak, Okamoto, and Seibu America exhibits, one theme stood out: manufacturers are being given more ways to increase productivity, automate repetitive processes, simplify operation, and produce complex parts with greater consistency.

Here are some of the technologies that caught our attention.

Mazak Expands the Possibilities for Automated Machining

Mazak showcased 15 machines at IMTS, including solutions from its NEO, Ez, Multi-Tasking, and SYNCREX product families. Automation was incorporated throughout the exhibit, ranging from bar feeders and gantry loaders to cobots and multi-machine pallet systems.

Among the highlights was the INTEGREX i-200ST NEO, paired with gantry loader automation. Mazak’s Multi-Tasking approach helps manufacturers combine operations that might otherwise require multiple machines and setups. Fewer setups can mean less part handling, shorter lead times, and greater consistency.

Mazak also paired its HCN-5000 NEO Horizontal Machining Center with a Multi-Pallet Pool, demonstrating how palletized automation can extend productive machining time with less operator intervention.

For shops producing smaller precision components, the SYNCREX Swiss-style turning platform demonstrated another route to high-volume production.

The larger takeaway is that automation does not have to mean rebuilding an entire production floor. Manufacturers can introduce it at different levels based on their current equipment, production demands, and available labor.

Seibu America Pushes Wire EDM Toward Smarter Automation

Seibu America’s IMTS presence centered on Wire EDM, precision, and automation. Ahead of the show, Seibu previewed a new automation solution designed to combine precision machining with greater efficiency and smart manufacturing capabilities.

Wire EDM remains an important option for manufacturers producing intricate features, demanding geometries, and tight-tolerance components that can be difficult or inefficient to produce with conventional cutting processes.

The addition of automation makes that capability even more valuable. By reducing manual intervention, shops can extend machine utilization and increase opportunities for unattended production.

Seibu has also continued developing technologies such as Scope Vision, which integrates camera technology into the machine so operators can verify critical features without removing the workpiece from the tank. The goal is straightforward: maintain precision while improving workflow and machine efficiency.

Okamoto Makes Advanced Grinding More Accessible

At Okamoto, the focus was on combining precision grinding with easier operation.

The company introduced its PRG6-iQ Precision Rotary Surface Grinder, ACC-818SA-iQ Surface Grinder, and OGM-820UNC III CNC Cylindrical Grinder at IMTS.

A major advancement was Okamoto’s new iQ conversational control. The system uses guided on-screen prompts to help operators configure grinding parameters and multi-step cycles without relying as heavily on traditional G-code programming.

For machine shops, that matters because advanced equipment is only valuable when manufacturers can effectively put it to work. Controls that simplify programming can help reduce setup complexity while supporting consistent, high-precision grinding.

Our team was able to spend time with customers around Okamoto’s technology and discuss how grinding automation and easier-to-use controls could fit their specific applications.

What We Heard on the Show Floor

For A.W. Miller, IMTS gives our team the opportunity to walk the floor with customers and connect technology to the challenges they are experiencing every day. Those conversations often center around questions such as:

  • How can we reduce setup time?
  • Where can automation offset labor constraints?
  • Can we consolidate multiple operations?
  • How can we increase unattended machining?
  • What technology will help us hold tighter tolerances more consistently?

Mazak, Okamoto, and Seibu America approach those challenges from different areas of manufacturing, but each demonstrated a similar direction at IMTS: helping machine shops accomplish more with the people, equipment, and floor space they have available.

Bringing IMTS Innovation Back to Your Machine Shop

The real value of the technology showcased at IMTS comes from identifying where it makes sense in your operation.

Whether you are evaluating Multi-Tasking machining, automated grinding, Wire EDM, machine tending, or unattended production, the A.W. Miller team can help you determine which technologies align with your parts, processes, and production goals.
